As a child, I hated the food that my parents gave me, and therefore, when I was given a chance to eat something that was not chinese food, I went haywire with it. My go-to-choice at the hawker centre was a burger and steak, and therefore I wanted to capture the childhood innocence that this dish had, and therefore I bought a burger from the same place I used to when I was a kid. I used Vincent van Gogh as an inspiration, an artist who I’ve also loved as a child, and bright colours to bring out childishness and bring out a slightly whimsical feel. I also tried making the brushwork choppier to show texture, and make the work seem slightly more fun. The background is painted in pale yellow, my favourite colour as a child.
