Acrylic on canvas
My work is meant to be a reflection of the presence of these 'light sources' and their impact on my life at this pivotal stage of struggle and growth in my life. During this time, I undoubtedly face tough challenges and obstacles. Thankfully, my family and friends - my 'light sources' - are there to support and guide and keep me on the right track, acting as my 'light in the dark' or my 'light at the end of the tunnel'. Thus, I was inspired to make a tribute to these important people in my life and reflect on how they impact me and lift me up in my times of struggle.
My family and friends are simplified and portrayed as literal light sources in my work, shining down from the corners of my canvas and bathing me in light, therefore pulling me out of the aforementioned darkness and struggles. I wanted to give the sense that without these light sources, I would be completely lost and engulfed by the darkness of my struggles, failing to overcome these obstacles and move forward. However, in their presence, I am able to look past these struggles and darkness and rise towards the light.
