The Fight For Equality
Acrylic on sculpey
Adapted from Mulan (Disney version)
Characters:
Ying Yue by Phoebe Lim Rui Qi
Mulan by Shelby Teo Qi En
Xiu Ying by Daphne Koh Yi Yan
After the events of Mulan (the Disney movie), Mulan hid her true self and saved all of China, only to face the disdain and animosity from the people around her when she reveals her well-kept secret. They were unreceptive towards the idea of a woman having the same strength and capabilities as those of the opposite gender.
Consequently, she was seen as a social misfit that was brutish and unladylike compared to her feminine peers. In response to this, Mulan, together with her like-minded friends, set out to travel across China in hopes of changing the stereotype about female inferiority.
