The Inner Aggressive Recluse
Air Dry Clay

The unsettling feeling of everything around us—  homework, school, CCA, projects. All these surround us everyday, and we just can’t help but to set up a barrier to protect ourselves from the stresses. This work explores this delicate nature of humans and their response to the surroundings and the pressure that comes with it: having an exoskeleton around them, morphed from a frog, bamboo and an attempt at an exploding star. The process of making this piece echoes with my concept of wanting to hide from the difficulties of making it, yet this is most often not shown after all is completed.

Ahhh…
Printmaking, block printing ink on drawing block, back of red batik rice paper, translucent paper

We are all familiar with this feeling— as if you just finished a long marathon, and all you want to do is lie on all the ground. Be it the end of a big project, or after a day of school, this recurring feeling is one I’d like to think of as satisfaction.

As my first personal project on Printmaking, I explored various methods to portray satisfaction with different nuances, by trying colour combinations as well as patterns and overlays. I have learnt to be disciplined in the technical execution of block printing so as to ensure the clarity and consistency of the image formed.

A Dream of a Glimmering City
Acrylic on Canvas

Lights and shadows, popping colours and glittering stars. In this city of hopes and dreams, everything revolving around you is all so perfectly calibrated to your taste. Painting on such a huge canvas gave me a lot of room to go beyond my usual artmaking and really explore my composition and refine details like the glow of stars and the wing.

Conquering the universe with my fully grown wings, knowing all the mysteries of the world— this is an attempt at an imaginative utopia of adults’ lives.
