Mother’s Day
Acrylic and ink on Canvas

This artwork “Mother’s Day” reflects our modern-day society. In this pragmatic world, it has become easy to prioritise work over family. The artwork is inspired by the female figures, and features my grandma and mother (left to right), thus it is really personal. The artwork is designed like a postcard, depicting a short handwritten message from a daughter to her mother. The daughter explains that she would be unable to celebrate Mother’s Day with her mother due to her work. Most parts of this was done with acrylic paint, while the message was handwritten by my grandma in Chinese calligraphy ink. I hope this helps everyone realise that undermining our family for work/ school is a real concern and, in the long run, could bring about regret.

Here’s the translation of the message:

Dear Mom,

Happy Mother’s Day! I’ve been really busy with work recently, and won’t be able to celebrate Mother’s Day with you this year.  For this, I am stricken with guilt. I am currently in charge of a huge regional project, if I succeed, it’ll bring in extremely high profits for the company. Therefore, I have to give it my all. I promise to fulfil your dreams, and become a successful female entrepreneur. When I complete this project, I might have the time to bring you out for a meal! Do wait for my good news!

Love,

Daughter

Nami Gems Collab 1
Digital Drawing (Jewel Design)

Both Nami Gems Collab 1 & 2 were done digitally, in collaboration with a local online jewellery store. After coming across their account by chance, I decided to reach out to them for a collaboration. It was a fulfilling experience to be able to support our small businesses in Singapore by creating art. These 2 illustrations render how we should support our local talents, encourage the heart and dare to dream!

Plastic Bag Culture
Digital Drawing

“Plastic Bag Culture” is a dress I designed. I was inspired by the plastic bags that we are so accustomed to in our everyday lives. Orange is an iconic plastic bag colour in Singapore, hence, the dominant ‘orange’ used in this design. The design shows a pyramidal form, with a main plastic bag at the centre and multiple smaller ones attached to its sides and seams. It also incorporates elements of recyclable bags such as drawstrings and zippers. This design expands on the concept of using technology to make new clothing from used plastic. I would like to articulate the need to reduce, reuse and recycle through the unique design of “Plastic Bag Culture”.
