Steps in the Right Direction
Acrylic on canvas shoe
29.7 x 42 cm

This was my entry for the SB2019 x Converse Chucks Design Competition. This was the first time I painted on a shoe, and also one of my first few tries at acrylic painting. The sky is your limit. This design is of a dreamlike place, where the stairs bring you to reach greater heights. Exploring the skies can be scary, but anyone can reach it if they have the courage and determination. The steps also provide a platform to stop and reflect. Remember - do not be afraid to take a step forward.

Me
Acrylic on Canvas
42 x 29.7 cm

This is me. The work is made up of different parts of me; my hobbies, interests, personality, commitments, and everything skin deep. These elements combine to form a human figure; I would like to think that this is how I look without below my exterior appearance. I used many warm colours to show a vibrant personality. There are miniature people running on the track (hands), showing resilience, an important value to me.

Interlaced with the Pandemic
Paper Sculpture
29.7 x 42 cm

This artwork was inspired by one of the most modern architecture in Singapore, the Interlace, which pushed boundaries and broke limits. This was also my first time incorporating lights into my works, which was a really big step for me. As it was done during Circuit Breaker in Singapore, every window is filled with people doing “Singaporean things”, like getting scolded/caned by Mum. Circuit Breaker was a time for us to reflect, and I realised how I miss the simple everyday things (e.g. bubble tea). Nothing is certain, so we need to cherish the time together.
