Let the Light In
Oil on canvas
80 x 120 cm
Instead of school, I stayed home.
Not a school desk, this desk in my room.
Circuit Breaker, Home-Based Learning.
COVID-19 totally saddening.
Our lives disrupted and many lost.
Everything cancelled, hopes crushed.
In the darkness, I drew open my curtains.
Let the light in, trust and believe.
Together with all residents in Singapore,
I stood strong with the frontline heroes.
I have observed that the lives of Singaporeans are often fast-paced, rushing from place to place, to complete task after task. Consequently, this may have resulted in a highly stressful and negative environment. Hence, I hope to spark positivity through this campaign, as well as encourage others to pause, take breaks and breathe. It is perfectly fine to slow down our pace of life, and nurture a positive attitude.
Inspired by ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch, I created this character with blocks of colours to reflect my inner self. With the use of bold and vibrant colours, I hope to portray my out-of-this-world life.
The silent nation-builder

I hoped to pay tribute to the foreign workers who have spent their lives building Singapore’s infrastructure. Working hard under the sun, they gave their best so that their families back home can have a future. I want to appreciate their hard work.
