The pose that I strike captures a caught-off-guard expression. Prominent lines were used to depict the harsh lighting and shadows.

One of Two Kinds
Chinese ink on rice paper
29.7 x 21 cm (each)

These two paintings convey a sense of disparity between partners. The first piece illustrates the fragmentation of self due to the rift in the relationship. The foetal position of both figures suggests vulnerability and fragility of the state of each being in the work. The second piece is largely inspired by the story ‘The Red Candle’ from the book Joy Luck Club, in which the main character takes it upon herself to break her marriage on her own terms rather than leaving her fate to divine power.

A View of Nanyang
Watercolour on paper
29.7 x 42 cm

I used a card to create interesting strokes for most of the piece. The side of the card allowed me to block colours easily and present a sense of depth with the leading lines of the tables.
